Vayikra (וַיִּקְרָא), means “And He called,” taken from the very first word of the book where God calls out to Moses (Moshe). It is also historically called Torat Kohanim (תורת כהנים), meaning “Law of the Priests”.
Leviticus is the third book of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) and the Christian Old Testament, sitting at the center of the Torah (the Pentateuch).
The English name comes from the Late Latin Leviticus, which originates from the Ancient Greek Leuitikon (meaning “of the Levites”). It refers to the Levites, the priestly tribe of ancient Israel responsible for temple rituals and duties.
Unlike the other tribes, the Levites (Lewi) received no large territory of land. God was considered their inheritance. They were supported by tithes (a tenth of the produce) given by the other tribes of Israel. Yet unlike greedy ministers today, they didn’t walk around with expensive clothes. They did not dwell in magnificent homes. They lived in 48 designated cities scattered throughout the other tribal territories, including six cities of refuge.
Did you know: An alternative Hebrew name for the book of Leviticus is Torat Kohanim (תּוֹרַת כֹּהֲנִים). It translates directly to “The Instruction of the Priests” or “Law of the Priests”.
The priests (Levites) were the only ones authorized to handle blood and altar rituals. While an individual could bring an offering, the priest carried out the final, holy steps (Ch 1–7)
Slaughtering and skinning: Overseeing the proper ritual slaughter of animals.
Blood manipulation: Splashing, sprinkling, or pouring animal blood on specific parts of the Altar of Burnt Offering to make atonement.
Burning the offering: Arranging and burning the designated portions (fat, organs, or the entire animal) on the altar fire.
Grain and peace offerings: Presenting grain and drink offerings, and roasting the communal peace offerings.

Distinguishing the holy: Teaching the people the practical differences between what was sacred and what was common, and what was ritually clean and unclean (Leviticus 10:10).
Providing rulings: Interpreting the law for specific civil or ethical cases brought before them. Managing the rituals for Passover, Pentecost (Shavuot), the Festival of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah), and the Festival of Booths (Sukkot)
The priests managed the sacred calendar, ensuring that national holidays were observed correctly.
Once a year, On the Day of Atonement, the High Priest performed the ultimate ritual—entering the Holy of Holies to make atonement for the entire nation’s sins using the blood of a goat and sending a second goat (the “scapegoat”) into the wilderness (Chapter 16).
Aharon, Brother Of Moshe
Aaron (Aharon) was a major biblical figure, the older brother of Moshe and Miriam, and the first High Priest of Israel. Because Moshe had a speech impediment, God appointed Aaron to be Moshe’s voice and representative before the Egyptian Pharaoh. God consecrated Aaron and his descendants from the tribe of Levi as the eternal priestly lineage of Israel, making Aaron the first High Priest (Kohen Gadol). Like Moshe, Aaron was not allowed to enter the Promised Land due to an incident at Meribah. He died at age 123 on Mount Hor, passing his priestly garments to his son Eleazar.
Their parents were Amram and Yochebed, both of the tribe of Levite (Lewi).
Incident at Meribah: After about 40 years in the wilderness, at Meribah Kadesh, a new generation complained about a lack of water. God told Moses and Aaron to gather the assembly and speak to the rock to bring forth water. Instead, an angry Moses scolded the people (“Listen, you rebels”) and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water flowed abundantly, but Moses did not follow the exact command to sanctify God’s holiness through speech alone. Because Moses and Aaron failed to obey and trust God fully in front of the community, they were barred from entering the Promised Land.
The Christian Way
Unfortunately due to the Roman Catholic Church, Bible readers have decided to worship a little differently then originally specified. Ignoring what’s printed in the Old Testament Bible, most completely disregard many laws, regulations and commandments.
Even though many Christians will tell you to ignore the Old Testament, claiming we are save by a grace that they clearly do not understand, most Christians will still dutifully recite Leviticus 18:22….
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. They seem to believe we should definitely follow this verse. Yet, they seem to completely overlook, Leviticus 19:4, which say’s, Turn ye not unto idols, nor make yourselves molten gods. I AM the LORD your GOD.
Did you know: that images such as statues of Jesus, Mary and the cross are idols? Images created by men. Sculpted by a mans hand? They are molten gods just as described in Leviticus 19:4!
For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life. Proverbs 6:23
How about Leviticus 19:13 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor, neither rob him; the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning. Someone should probably talk to our Billionaire class. The owners who constantly rob their workers and the entire country through their large tax cuts and unfair wages. It would appear that they never got the memo.
What does the Bible say about these Wealthy people?
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Matthew 6:24
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Matthew 19:24. If Yeshua reveals a rich person will probably not make it to heaven, why are so many ministers preaching a false prosperity gospel?

Leviticus 19:33 And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him. 34) But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I AM the LORD your GOD. Could someone please show this passage to all the MAGA and Christian Nationalist? It seems to be another verse they missed.
The Misuse Of Malachi…
Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ In tithes and offerings. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
Every minister remembers this verse and recites it as often as possible to their congregants to collect hundreds, thousand or even millions in tax free dollars.
Most people ignore the fact that this book was written at a time before Yehoshua. Before HIS sacrifice. The tithe Malachi is speaking of, are baby animals. Ones used for sacrifice. He is referring to blood and grain offering’s, not cash.
The Bible tell’s us, every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God that HE has given you. Deuteronomy 16:17
Today we give to help the poor, the widow, and the orphan. We give our time by visiting the sick, those forgotten in prison and by helping those who are desperate and in need.
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
In other words do not waste money on extravagant fruitless things. Use your money wisely and give to those in need.
