Many people assume that the name Jesus, is Greek , when it is in fact an English transliteration.
John 5:43 I have come in MY FATHER’s NAME, and you do not receive Me, If another comes in his own name, him you will receive.
So, before we differentiate transliterations from translations, lets first distinguish what a translation actually is.
Question: What is a translation?
Answer: a translation can be defined as, the process of turning an original “source” text into texts in other languages.
Translations must be accurately translated allowing the true meaning of words to be understood in other languages. Unfortunately, some biblical words are transferred into other languages, Greek, Latin, and English, relaying vowels and sounds without adding their most important component, their Hebrew meaning.
Transliterations
Transliterations, often focus on sound more than definition, imitating the alphabets of one language and transferring them into letters in other languages which sound similar.
For instance, here we have the Hebrew name Yeshua.
The actual English transliteration of this name would be,

The transliteration should allow English speaking people to read and pronounce the name without losing the true value and Hebrew meaning in the process.

In the Name of Yehoshua every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and every tongue confess that Yehoshua the Messiah is LORD! To the GLORY of GOD, the FATHER!
Question: So, if the English translation of Yeshua is actually, Yeshua, then what is the true origin and purpose of the name Jesus?
There is no single conclusive answer to explain this. There are multiple probabilities for where the name derived, we can examine some of them together……
Let’s start with an ancient Hebrew acronym. You probably have never heard of it, but it was used frequently during the beginning of the first century in Jerusalem and around the Middle East,
“Y-e-s-h-u” pronounced (Ye-shoo).
YESHU is a (Hebrew acronym), the words yimakh shemo v’zikhro (Yimah, Shemo, Wezikh) In English actually means, “may his name and memory be obliterated.“
The oldest works referencing Yeshu are said to be recorded in the Tosefta written around the 3rd century CE, and the Talmud 500 CE, although some scholars consider the references to Yeshu to be post Talmudic additions.
YEHOSHUA (YESHUA)– comes from the Hebrew root Yasha, which means “to save.” That is why He was named Yehoshua: because He will “save” His people from their sins.
(Matthew 1: 21, CJB) Thus Yehoshua means GOD’s salvation. Reiterating the scripture Isaiah 45:23 In the name of MYSELF I have sworn from My mouth, has rightly gone out a WORD; (Yehoshua), that will not return.
It is very possible that the acronym (Yeshu) and not the actual name Yehoshua was transliterated into the English, Jesus.
How could this be possible?
Over 2300 years ago, around the third century BCE, It is claimed that seventy-two men, skilled in the Hebrew language, erroneously transliterated the name of Yehoshua as Iesous while creating a Greek translation of “Old Testament” scriptures called the “Septuagint.”
It was written that Ptolemy II commissioned 72 Hebrew scholars to translate the Greek Septuagint from the ancient Hebrew text. It is recorded that six scholars were commissioned from each of the twelve tribes. The problem with this story, is that the Septuagint was translated around 285 BCE a time where historically there could not have been twelve Hebrew tribes found in Israel. The Bible reveals that 500 years prior to this so called event, around 721 BCE, ten of the twelve tribes were carted away by the Assyrian Empire. They were gradually assimilated into other cultures, later disappearing from history all together. No one, only GOD knows who and where they are.
Romans 2: 23-24 You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
Could this be a message to the Edomites of today?
“Iesous” pronounced (ee-ya-soose) was a pre-existing name belonging to an ancient Greek deity, which they borrowed and used while transliterating original Hebrew scripture into Greek texts. (Daniel 8:14)
It was this Septuagint, that was transferred into early Bibles, causing Yehoshua’s Name to be blasphemously transliterated into “Iesous.” Later HIS Name was blasphemed further into the Latin, “Iesu.”
Yehoshua’s followers, HIS Ecclesia, who were once recognized as, “the Way,” became a designation and source of paganism, renamed, “the church,” in tribute of a pagan goddess, who was further reflected into a massive idolatrous structure of physical adoration.
Once the letter “J” was introduced, in the late 15th century, this name was transformed yet again into “Jesu”, eventually morphing a fourth time into “Jesus.”
IESOUS– (Greek; pronounced ee-ya-soose) the oldest recorded use of the name is as an Amorite personal name around 2048 BC.
According to the book, “The Corruption of The Greek Name Iesous (Jesus)” By Austin Ellis, “IHSOUS or Esus was a Gallic deity comparable to the Scandinavian Odin. Odin of course, was the Scandinavian Sky- deity. The Gallic or Celtic deity, Esus, has also been identified with Mars, and by others with Mercury, and regarded to by the special deity of Paris (Aphrodite). Just as Iaso, Ieso, Iesous are derived from the Greek word for healing, Iasis, we similarly find Isis (more correctly Esu).”
The first transliteration of koine Greek origin is not in anyway a translation of, “Salvation,” It’s only connection would appear to be their similarity in sound. Hebrew acronym Y-e-s-h-u sounds similar to the Greek (Iesous).
Why is this, well according to them…
Ancient Greeks did not have a “Y” sound in their language, so the letters’ ‘I- e” pronounced (ee-ya) were used. They also had no “sh” sound, which supposedly explains the [sous] reflected also as “sus.”
From Greek into Latin
JESU (Iesu) – (at that time pronounced Ye-soo) the second transliteration transferring the Greek Iesous, into the Latin, Iesu, also neglects to transfer the true definition of Salvation, concealing the true identity and purpose of GOD’s True Son. Remember the original transliteration could quite possibly be a version of the Hebrew acronym Yeshu and not the actual Hebrew name of Yehoshua and (in Hebrew) Yeshu translates as, may his name and memory be obliterated.
Eventually around the 16th century, the English, Jesus, became the last and final transliteration, transforming the Latin Iesu/Jesu into the English Jesus’ (substituting the true holiness and divine character of Yehoshua, with the epitome of paganism, “Jesus.”)
These were the human explanations’ given to us as a justification for exchanging, GOD’s Truth, into gross and distorted lies.
Curiously, the, “a” sound at the end of the name Yehoshua doesn’t appear in any of these transliterated versions, Iesous, Jesu, and Jesus and that omission is yet to be discovered or explained.
The full name of Yehoshua, means GOD is Salvation, and literally translates as GOD saves or rescues us, in Hebrew.
As mentioned earlier, Isis, the pagan goddess known also as, Isus, and Iesos by ancient Greeks (Hellenes), is strangely similar to the names of Jesus, Iesu and Iesous.
“ICTHUS” the fish symbol representing Jesus, also derived from a Greek acronym. In English it is translated as Jesus Christos Son of the Savior. (Before Christianity many Romans believed Isis to be the savior) So this is describing a son of the savior, referring to Isis.
Did you know: Many Greek names and geographical areas ending in sus, seus, or sous were often attached by Greeks as a way to honor their supreme deities. Both Greeks and Romans worshiped Zeus also known as Jupiter.
In Latin “Jesus,” which was pronounced hey-sous translated as “hail Zeus.” Zeus was believed to be the son of Saturn (Helios Christos) and is the planet Jupiter in physical form.
The Spanish language is one of the many descendants originating from the Romance language “Latin”. In Spanish even today Jesus is pronounced hey- sous (Which in Latin would translate as hail Zeus).
There is something very “Sus” about the name Jesus.
“Sus” for centuries has described the action of unearthing a dark secret. It was even used in the early 1800’s as a law in Great Britain, called the “Sus law” a nickname for stop and search, enacted in 1824. It was used to detain or incarcerate those who appeared suspicious. Today “sus” is playfully regarded as suspect or suspicious.
Changes in pronunciations over time..
The first letter in the name Yehoshua is the yod. The Yod represents the “Y” sound in Hebrew. Many names in the Bible that begin with yod are mispronounced in English because the yod in these names were transliterated into English using the letter “J”. When the letter “J” was first introduced around the late 15th century, it was pronounced the way we pronounce the letter “Y” today.
The letter “I” was also pronounced this way. In fact, earlier editions of “The King James Version Bible” and other early Bibles were printed using the letter “I”, Iesu, pronounced “Yesoo” (Latin) instead of “geesus”(English) as we have come to pronounce it today. All proper names in the Old Testament were transliterated into English according to their Hebrew pronunciations. For example, Judah was pronounced Yehuda, but once English words and enunciation’s digressed into what they have become today, these transliterations were not altered.
Did you know: That the original manuscripts of New Testament books are said to have not survived? Meaning that there is no full, intact manuscript of any original New Testament book. The original manuscripts were said to have been lost or destroyed a long time ago, leaving only copies of the copies of the originals. This unfortunate situation aided in the twisting and mangling of important, messages, documents, and critical biblical information.
The Bible, which was known as the Biblia in Latin, which means ”The Book,” in English, is far more than just a book. This is an amazing and historical document. Written over many thousands of years by multiple prophets of the LIVING GOD. It is a RIGHTEOUS LIVING TESTAMENT to how the LIVING SPIRIT of GOD endures, and continues to prophesy HIS TRUTH throughout multiple generations.
Unfortunately, the exchanging of Yehoshua’s name, isn’t the only problematic addition made to GOD’s True, and Holy Word over generations. It would appear that many prophecies were twisted and mangled, and even worse an ancient star deity was secretly introduced, and placed into the position where Yehoshua, the Holy Son of GOD, should be. Acknowledging and understanding this systemic poisoning, will be our most powerful defense against these adversary’s.
A deity previously known to Greeks as Zeus and to Romans as Jupiter (in some places recorded as a twin brother to Odin) the son of “Helios Christos (Saturn) was once renowned, and worshiped as a solar deity. The Babylonians regarded him using the name Marduk, and the Egyptians acknowledged this same deity as Horus and Ra (pronounce “rah Horus”), “Amun Re,” or Ra- Horakhty. He was believed to be both the sun (son) and Horus the sky. This is also the origin of the, “amen.”
YESHUA The Messiah
Yod- Shin- Vav- Ayin the Hebrew spelling of the name Yehoshua.
This name translates as GOD is my Salvation.
Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe (saved).
Micah 4:5 All the nations may walk in the name of their gods, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our GOD for ever and ever.
During the time of Yehoshua, the Messiah, many including His own people, mocked HIM, by using this shameful acronym, Yeshu. Today, Ashkenazi Jews, continue to refuse the truth of Yehoshua’s identity, rebuking both Him and His authority, they continue to perpetuate this derogatory acronym, Y-e-s-h-u (Yeshu).
Yehoshua haMashiach, is literally the Hebrew translation of, “GOD is my Salvation,” Mashiach is a special anointing that can only come from GOD THE FATHER. In English it is translated as the “Messiah.” The name Yeshua is the short version of Yehoshua, which literally translates “Yah (GOD) is my SALVATION.
In John 17:11 As Yehoshua prayed on behalf of His disciples, saying, “Now I am no longer in the world. They are in the world, but I am coming to you, HOLY FATHER, guard them by the power of YOUR NAME, which YOU have given to Me, so that they may be one, just as We are. Later in verse 12 He said, “When I was with them, I guarded them by the power of YOUR NAME, which YOU have given Me;”
Now, would this be in regard to HIS true Hebrew name? Or the one men exchanged it for?
GOD’s True people
Ezekiel 39:23-29 (CJB) While the Goyim (Gentiles) will know that the house of Israel went into exile because of their guilt, because they broke faith with ME; so, I hid My face from them and handed them over to their adversaries; and they fell by the sword, all of them. Yes, I treated them as their uncleanness and crimes deserved; and I hid MY FACE from them.’ “Therefore ADONAI ELOHIM says this: ‘Now I will bring back the captives of Ya’akov (Jacob) and have mercy on the whole house of Israel and I will be jealous (zealous) for MY HOLY NAME. They will bear their shame and all their (guilt from) breaking faith with ME, once they are living in their land, with no one to make them afraid. This will be after I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, thereby being consecrated (made holy) through them in the sight of many nations.
GOD will consecrate (make holy again) HIS people, through both this global expulsion and later the regathering.
28 Then they will know that I am ADONAI (The LORD) their GOD, since it was I who caused them to go into exile among the nations (Goyim), and it was I who regathered them to their own land. I will leave none of them there anymore.
29 and I will no longer hide MY FACE from them, for I have poured out MY SPIRIT on the house (descendants) of Yisrael, says ADONAI ELOHIM.”
It is very difficult to understand timelines given in scripture. When GOD speaks, HIS WORDS will surely manifest, whether it is today, tomorrow or thousands of years into the future. Many ministers of deception, continue to claim that these events have already taken place, but I assure you, this prophecy has not yet occurred. The whole house of Yisrael (all 12 tribes) have not yet been restored from all the places in the world where they were scattered during their captivities. The Jews who dwell in Israel today, even if proven to be true Yehudim, would merely represent only one of twelve tribes. This prophecy involves the whole house of Israel (Ya’akov) all twelve tribes, not just one. The Ashkenazi Jews around the world, currently, do not live in peace, or safety, which the prophecy promises. These people who forcibly took the land of Israel, are not protected either. They live under a constant threat of violence, hate, war and Antisemitism, which continue to escalate daily.
Followers of Yehoshua, the Redeemer
1st John 4: 4-6 You, children, are from GOD and have overcome the false prophets, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore, they speak from the world’s viewpoint; and the world listens to them. We are from GOD. Whoever knows GOD listens to us; whoever is not from GOD doesn’t listen to us. This is how we distinguish the Spirit of Truth from the spirit of error.
Mashiach (Hebrew) describes the MESSIAH, ANOINTED BY GOD.
The title of Mashiach came from the Hebrew language and means, “Anointed One of GOD,” Mashiach refers to an individual set apart to serve GOD.
John 1:1-4 in the beginning was THE WORD, and THE WORD was with GOD And THE WORD was GOD. He was with GOD in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
Word – described as a unit of language, consisting of one or more spoken sounds or their written representation, functioning as a principal carrier of meaning.
b) An order or command.
Genesis 1:3 And God Said, “Let there be light,” and there was light (Yehoshua). The light GOD spoke into existence in the beginning, on the first day.
Yehoshua haMoshiach is GOD’s spoken word, the word that was made flesh. All things were made through HIM, (GOD’s spoken word) and without HIM (GOD’s spoken WORD) nothing was made, that has been made. In HIM (again GOD’s spoken word) was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
Interesting information: According to Johann Andreas Eisenmenger 1654-1704, in his “Entdecktes Judenthum” (Judaism Unmasked) Jews used the acronym “Yeshu” as a deliberate insult to Yeshua. Eisenmenger claimed that Jews believed they were forbidden to mention names of false gods (believing Yeshua to be false) were instead commanded to change and defame them. This, according to Eisenmenger, “was why they used the acronym Yeshu because they (the Jews, Ashkenazi’s) considered him a false god.”
Authors note: This is a very important admission, it reveals that Jews, according to Eisenmenger, aided in this monumental conspiracy which fueled the dragon and his anti-messianic beast, who later overwhelmed the world in lies, false prophecies and deception. This very insult (blasphemy), used to defame Yehoshua, became the chief of all pagan gods, and the epitome of idolatrous behavior.
Question: Why is the original Hebrew name so very important?
Answer: Because it remains the difference between life and death!!
Acts 4:12 (JUB) Neither is their salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men in which we can be saved. The word saved was translated from the Greek word sozo, which means salvation, to heal, restore to health, or to preserve one in danger of destruction.
This clearly describes the true name, Yehoshua. The name given by GOD, not any substitution. Scripture records salvation can only be obtained through that name, Yehoshua haMashiach, which connects us to the one and only true GOD. HIS name literally means, “GOD is my salvation,” yet men have taken it upon themselves to exchange it, with a pseudo, not once, not even twice, but four times.
Matthew 7:22-23 (NIV) Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.
The Greek word translated as , “knew” in Matthew 7 verse 23 is “ginosko,” it means, to be aware of, to recognize, or to perceive. In verse 23 Yehoshua tells us that he will profess (Greek: homologeo) which is to acknowledge, “I never knew you !”
Take note of the negative adverb of frequency used here, “never” from the Greek word (oudepote) meaning, He will deny absolutely, “not ever.”
John 1:12 (NIV) Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of GOD.
Apparently believing in HIS NAME (His true Name) is as important as believing in HIS person (character). John 6:62-65 What if you were to see the Son of Man going up where He was before? 63 The SPIRIT is the One who gives life, and the flesh doesn’t help at all. 64 Yet some of you don’t believe. Yehoshua knew from the beginning who wouldn’t believe Him and the one who would betray Him.
65, HE said, “For this reason I said to you that none can come to Me unless the FATHER enables them to do so.”
The English word enable, was translated from the Greek word, (didōmi). It means to “grant,” or to “command.” No one can come to Yehoshua unless the FATHER commands it.
Did you know: Before converting the Roman Empire to Christianity, Emperor Constantine worshiped “Christos Helios” also described as CHRIST- THE- TRUE- SUN, again this is the deity known today as the planet Saturn.
Evidence of the Spirit- TRUTH.
John 14:6 Yeshua answered, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one cometh unto the Father except through Me.
Philippians 2:9-11 (CJB) Therefore GOD raised Him to the highest place and gave Him the Name above every name; 10), that in honor of the Name given Yehoshua, every knee will bow– in heaven, on earth and under the earth. 11) and every tongue will acknowledge that Yehoshua the Messiah is ADONAI (LORD) – to the glory of GOD the FATHER. (Isaiah 45:22-23)
Of all the names previously used, Iesous, Iesu (Jesu), and currently Jesus, only the name Yehoshua (Hebrew) translates as Salvation directly from the One True GOD. This is the only name that acknowledges both the True FATHER, and the True Son.
Remember the description Yehoshua gave, ” the gate is small, the road is narrow, and only few will find it,” let alone follow it!!
John 3:18 (NIV) Whoever believes (trusts) in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the Name of GOD’s One and Only Son.
John 6:38-40 I have come down from heaven not to do My will, but the will of HIM who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the ONE who sent Me, that I won’t lose anything HE has given Me, but I will raise it (them) up at the last day. 40 This is My FATHER’s will: that all who see the Son and believe HIM will have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
The word, “see” was translated from the Greek word “theoreo” which means to behold, or to observe.
How do we observe?
Observe (verb)- to take notice of by appropriate action or conduct; to conform one’s action or practice into; to keep; to heed; to obey; or to comply with, as to observe rules or commands (such as, we observe GOD’s Ten Commandments.)
We observe the Shabbat!
Yehoshua (Salvation) came into this world as pure light (Truth) shining through all darkness (deception and lies), to rescue us. He is the spiritual ark which leads us to Life everlasting.
